10. distraction (Just a thought)

Filed under: Poetry — anonomousangel @ 7:09 pm

The thought dances across her mind
Drawing her attention from facts and figures
that she’s attempting to learn
Because Christmas exams start in two days
v=u+at, s=ut + ½ at²
“come on” the thought whines
“you know that stuff, forget it”
Her eyes dart to the open door
“Time for a break yet?”
She reluctantly turns back to the book
“Not yet”
The thought had jumped with excitement
But landed with a bump as her resolve strengthened
The thought whispered in her ear
As she practised questions and quoted definitions
“You don’t study, you neverstudy, you can’t study
you always do fine, you don’t need this”
A serious voice speaks harshly to the playful thought
“Leave her alone, this is good 5th year’s important
She’s doing well, stop trying to distract her”
The thought frowned at the authoritative tone
Like a scolded child it sat in a corner pouting
“I just wanted her to have fun, it’s nearly Christmas”
It folded its arms and donned a martyred expression
“It was just a thought”
